The Local Committee Paris Center
Our local committee Paris Center consists of Attac France members who live
in the 1st - 7th District of Paris. Over several years the average
membership is betwen 200 and 250 members of which in any given year 30 are
actively engaged. Attac Paris Center implements on a local level the
objectives of Attac France; it turns popular education into political
action. A problem of the committee is that the members move a lot within in
Paris.
There are two monthly meetings in two different locations where lectures
are mixed with actions, film projections, public debates on general
subjects like the European Constitutional Treaty, Bolkenstein
Directive,WTO, World and European Social Forum and special subjects with
local relevance like the Paris Social Forum, housing and participation in
'District Committees'. The lectures are mostly given by the members and
concern news topics or specialised topics to do with environment, health,
public service, globalisation, representative and participative democracy,
technical progress and labour, WTO, Worldbank, IMF....etc.. We have a
number of specialised working groups, the one dealing with Europe is
particularly active. This group is looking to organise the twinning with
other European Attac groups.
The committee together with other committees in the Paris region takes part
in organising banners for demonstrations, street theatre...etc.. Members
of the committee are represented in national commissions of Attac France
and participate in international reunions such as the World - and European
Social Forum and World - and European Attac meetings. We have an internet
site (http://www.local.attac.org/parisctr), and two electronic information
and discussion lists parisctr@attac.org.....in French.
